Essay #2

In the reading, "no place like home," the author Guterson express' that maybe living in suburbia is not always the dream.  People think of the perfect society as everyone knowing each other and being happy and safe in their own neighborhood.  Community living is getting harder and harder for people because the city has control of everything you want to do with your house.  Some people see this as a sense of security but when do they go too far to make sure your house meet their requirements.

In previous free-write assignments we have done in class, we have talked about our dream homes and where we would love to live.  People's ideal of a dream home can vary.  Some like the idea of a gated community because it can give off a sense of safety and security.  Others don't like the idea of the city deciding everything a person can and can not do with their own home.  It can get to the point where it is a little creepy how these neighborhoods could get.  The streets look dead and no one is outside.  This is because everyone parks in their garage due to more rules they have to follow.  To an outsider this could look really weird.  They need to have less rules and let home owners do more with theri house since they are the ones paying for it.  In turn this would make everyone happy and more people would want to live there.
